How Heavy Is My Doberman Puppy Supposed to Be?

Is there any online site that tells me how heavy my dobie puppy SHOULD be (month by month would be nice!)? My pup and I went to see his vet yesterday, who told us that he needed to put on a little bit of weight. Hes almost 6 months old, eats 3 times a day, and seems average to me. However, I've been trying to feed him more to help "fatten" him up. Does anyone know how heavy a 5 1/2 month Doberman pup should be?

A Doberman that is 6 months should NOT weigh only 18 – 20 lbs..

A Doberman that is approx 10 weeks old would weigh approx 20 lbs.. Your 5 1/2 mos old Doberman should be approx 45-50 lbs.

You don't want him to be heavy, you want him to grow up first, then worry about him filling out.. He is better off to stay on the thin side rather than to fatten him up. If the vet thinks that he should put on a bit of weight.. You should make sure you are feeding a good quality food.. feed what the bag suggests.. Don't get him fat tho.. People think it's cute, but it's not, it's hard on them when they are growing that quickly at that age..

I dont know if there is an exact weight.. at 6 months, it should be near its adult size.

20 pounds would be a correct size for a 2 month old dobe!

I wouldnt necissarily go by numbers. Some dogs are a little smaller than their standard. How does your dog look? Can you see her ribs? You should be able to feel, but not see her ribs.

Oh my gosh, that's scary future vet.

I believe my male was about 50 pounds at 6 months. I could be off, it's been years.

at that age, a Doberman pup should weigh between 40 n 55 pounds…i mean its kinda like people, some are alittle bigger n some are alittle smaller, some have slightly different bone structure, thinner or thicker…obviously they souldnt vary too much, but it does happen…so as long as your puppy is not showing signs of obesity, such as minimal or no belly tuck, or if you have trouble feeling the ribs through excess fat…
or on the other hand, if the ribs are clearly visible during normal daily actuauvutes or even just while laying aorund, then your dog is on the thinner side and alittle more food should do the trick to get him back on track, just make sure you dont go over board and get him fat.
    good luck

p.s…gwyneth, you sound like you mean well, but you really need to stop pulling stuff form your butt n passing it off as fact… if a six month old doberman weighed 20 pounds, it would be quite dead…thats like the weight of a 6 to 8 week old pup… for a future vet i fear for the lives of the pets you try to help…i suggest you do some research before you answer and especially before you even try to get a job somwhere where you put other animals lives at risk…
