What Is the Best Dog Food for a Doberman Puppy?

I have a red dobie puppy. I wanted to know what the best food you could feed a doberman. He is not allergic to anything that we know of and he has no skin problems but I want him to grow up to be a big shiny doberman that is admire by all.

An extremely good and affordable dog food is Taste of the Wild. It comes in 4 different formula’s: High Prairie Canine, Pacific Stream, Sierra Mountain Canine and Wetlands. It is a grain free food for all-life-stages meaning that you can feed it to your Doberman from birth until death. I feed my 3-year-old Doberman the Pacific Stream and Sierra Mountain Canine formula because they are not as high in protein as the High Prairie Canine and Wetlands formulas. My Doberman doesn’t react well to a protein content above 25%. All the ingredients are all natural with no by-products or fillers.

Please don’t feed your dog any of the commercial brands like Science Diet, Iams, Kibbles N’ Bits or anything else that you will find at the local grocery store. They are filled with worthless fillers like corn that have no benefit to your dog.

Taste of the Wild is only $40 for a 30 pound bag which is also much less expensive then Science Diet.

Lots of good ones out there. Read the ingredients and look for one with no corn, wheat, or by-products. First ingredient should be a named meat meal like "chicken meal." I prefer grain free but some do not. Here’s a list of good ones to look for -

    Wellness
    Innova/EVO
    Taste of the Wild
    Blue Buffalo/Wilderness
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul
    Natural Balance
    California Natural
    Canidae
    Premium Edge
    Eagle Pack Holistic
    Acana
    Orijen

Orijen has been voted the best dog food available but its very expensive at $40 for 15lbs. We feed our doby a red female Horizon Complete large breed dog food its available in puppy formula as well and costs about $50 for 30lbs. Eukanuba is also a good brand.

Raw or home cooked are best.
If feeding kibble look at the ratings at the site below.
Pick out a 5 or 6 star food.
    Grain free is best.

Depends on your budget but you should get the best you can afford. Super-premium brands will serve you best as you don’t have to feed as much and your dog will get max nutrition. You basically save by buying the best. I recommend: Orijen (all Stages), EVO, Innova, Taste of the Wild, Instinct, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, and a few others. You can find them at boutiques and feed stores. Some are at Petsmart (Blue Buff and Wellness).

if you want him bulky.. raw meat will do. Make sure he exercises alot each day. ( DO JUST LEAVE HIM OUT IN A YARD AND EXECT HIM TO EXERCISE ON HIS OWN) you got to be out there and play wit him. I had a lab and… he was HUGE compared to all the other labs i use to see. He was an outside dog with a bichonfrise/ shih tzu. The bichon was also huge for his breed. no joke .. i miss them though:( If you want a big and healthy dobie– play with him outside, feed him lots of meat BUT NOT TOO MUCh. We gave our dogs hotdogs too (sometimes). we also trained out dogs and used hotdogs as a treat. It would be good for u to get another dog of a diferent breed because dogs will always get lonely.
